A decade ago I had a call arranged with the indomitable Editor-in-Chief of the Emergency Medicine Journal, Ellen Weber, to discuss becoming an Editor. That call was the beginning of 10 years of learning for me. Ellen has been central to that learning, indeed she has guided large numbers of Editors. This has ensured the journal has maintained high standards, moved forward with our ever-developing academic specialty and giving something of interest for our readers every month. As Ellen moves to pastures new after December, she leaves a lasting legacy for Emergency Medicine-thank you for the wisdom you have imparted on us all.
