We thank Professors Gordon and Moran for their reflections on the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG)-commissioned inflammatory bowel disease guideline development process.1 This comprehensive guideline features 43 Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system recommendations plus 114 good practice statements and represents evolution in evidence synthesis and clinical guidance. Comprehensive guidelines are a core part of BSG activity, and the Society is hugely grateful for the contributions made by authors. The BSG remains committed to continued reflection and review of BSG guideline development processes. Clinical utility, dissemination and adoption are key considerations, and any methodology used must facilitate these. Below, we provide a BSG perspective on balancing innovation while maintaining guideline excellence and applied value.
