We read with great interest the study by Lenti et al published in Gut, providing the first large-scale assessment of clinical features and gastric neoplastic risk in autoimmune gastritis (AIG).1 Among 1240 patients with AIG across eight centres, the authors highlight the geographical heterogeneity in disease presentation and cancer risk. However, Asian data were limited to a single Japanese centre (n=79), where nearly 80% of patients were diagnosed through a national screening programme, potentially limiting the generalisability. Given that China bears a substantial global burden of gastric cancer and Helicobacter pylori prevalence, additional data from this region may further refine our understanding of AIG-associated neoplastic risk.
