Blood is a critical component of combat casualty care. Stored whole blood was initially introduced in US Central Command (USCENTCOM) in 2016.1 In 2023, USCENTCOM based its blood distribution on low-titre type O whole blood (LTOWB) and transitioned away from component therapy.2 The transition was based on historical data starting in 2017 and surgical best practice recommendations. 2 3
