A man in his late 40s presented with left hip pain following a motorcycle accident. The radiograph revealed anterior-inferior dislocation of the left femoral head into the obturator foramen without associated fractures ( figure 1A). Closed reduction was performed under general anaesthesia. Postreduction radiograph confirmed complete relocation of the femoral head without residual subluxation or fracture (figure 1B). At the 3-year follow-up, the patient remained asymptomatic and fully functional, with no evidence of joint instability, avascular necrosis or posttraumatic osteoarthritis. Anterior hip dislocations are rare, accounting for 5.3%–13% of all traumatic hip dislocations.1–3 Epstein classified anterior dislocations as pubic (superior) or obturator (inferior) based on femoral head position.1 More than 90% of anterior dislocations are of the obturator type.3 4
