In the United States (US), nearly half of hormonal contraceptive users report challenges obtaining an initial prescription.1 Even after initiation, access is often disrupted,2 and prescription fills have been declining, especially in states with restrictive reproductive health policies.3 Although progestogen-only contraception pills are now available over-the-counter, this formulation is expensive, inconsistently covered by insurance and often less preferred than oestrogen-progestogen pills.3 Consequently, contraception access remains a major public health issue.
