Winifred Gray was a pioneering doctor who as creator, editor, and co-author of the definitive reference book Diagnostic Cytopathology, and editor in chief of the journal Cytopathology, played a leading role in promoting the accurate diagnosis of cervical and other forms of cancer. She helped to save thousands of women in Britain and abroad from avoidable suffering and premature death.
