Spontaneous auto-amputation of a juvenile polyp in a 5-year-old with haematochezia

A boy aged 5 years old presented with a 6-week history of intermittent painless rectal bleeding. Clinical examination was unremarkable, and initial investigations including full blood count, faecal calprotectin and Meckel’s scan were normal. The parents discovered a spontaneously expelled fleshy mass in his stool ( figure 1), prompting urgent gastroenterology referral. Family history was significant for colonic polyps and ulcerative colitis, though no genetic mutation had been established in relatives.
