Geoffrey Robb was a distinguished physician, educator, mentor, and philanthropist. He was educated at Epsom College and Bristol University, and qualified as a doctor in 1961. He later trained in general medicine and cardiology in Bristol, Sheffield, and Leicester. A pivotal time in his early career was his work as a senior registrar at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town from 1966-68, where he contributed to advancements in heart transplantation under cardiovascular surgeon Marius Barnard. Marius and his brother Christiaan performed the world’s first human-to-human heart transplant in 1967.
