Patient self-medication with antibiotics, a class of chemicals that possess the capability to kill or inhibit the growth of particular bacteria, has given rise to antimicrobial resistance (AMR).1 AMR may be described as the heritable capacity of microbes to resist inhibition through multiple mechanisms.2 It is a worldwide condition since it results in millions of fatalities due to the development of resistance against antimicrobial agents.
