We thank Dai et al for their constructive letter regarding our recent study defining preclinical stages of Crohn’s disease (CD) using faecal calprotectin in asymptomatic first-degree relatives (FDRs).1 We appreciate their recognition of the study’s contribution and welcome the opportunity to further contextualise our findings.
