In a recent article,1 Armitage comments on our experimental vignette study in The Lancet Planetary Health, wherein we explored the effect of environmentally sustainable counselling.2 Primarily for less severe health conditions, we concluded that advising more sustainable treatment options appears unlikely to affect patients’ trust in care—even when mentioned explicitly. For relatively severe health conditions, advising more sustainable treatment options might negatively affect patients’ trust; however, the observed effect varied across health conditions and was not always due to mentioning environmental sustainability.
