Epidural hematoma is a rare yet potentially life-altering complication of neuraxial procedures. Specific antithrombotic dosing, frequency, and/or timing of administration surrounding epidural needle insertion and removal increases the risk of bleeding into the neuraxial space. 1 2 The American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA Pain Medicine) created a set of evidence-based guidelines for optimal antithrombotic use in the setting of neuraxial techniques to mitigate this complication. 3
