Introduction The Sheffield Neurology Unit provides tertiary care to a large catchment population and, unusually, accepts direct admissions. This provides resident doctors with a unique opportunity to receive immersive neurology training. National surveys highlight concerns regarding workload, supervision, teaching and overall satisfaction. This project aims to examine these in greater detail, exploring their cause(s) and potential strategies to improve working conditions and training.Method A bespoke survey was undertaken by resident doctors over three, 4-month long rotations through the neurology unit over 2023-2024. Quantitative values were analyzed using descriptive statistics and free-text responses underwent thematic analysis.Results 87% rated clinical supervision positively. 60% reported insufficient outpatient exposure. Burnout was significant with 87% reporting workload to be “heavy” or “very heavy”. Only 6% rated the overall experience as “Good”, while 60% rated it as “Poor”.Conclusion Targets for improvement include refining the departmental induction, improving access to outpatient clinics and ensuring consistent, direct consultant supervision. This work emphasizes the importance of an iterative approach to the development and delivery of a training rotation at a busy tertiary neurology unit. Success in providing a supportive educational working environment is contingent on open channels of feedback, flexibility and departmental engagement.musavvir.samin@nhs.net
