Ramsay Hunt syndrome with V3 nerve involvement

Ramsay Hunt syndrome, or herpes zoster oticus, is a rare neurological disorder caused by reactivation of the varicella zoster virus within the geniculate ganglion of the facial nerve (CN VII). Its classical features are a triad of unilateral facial paralysis, otalgia and a vesicular rash. 1 We present a patient with atypical Ramsay Hunt syndrome who had additional involvement of the trigeminal nerve (CN V).
