Overdiagnosis in dentistry can lead to unnecessary treatments, increased healthcare costs, and potential harm to patients. Evidence-based dentistry (EBD) offers a systematic approach to clinical decision-making that integrates the best available evidence with clinical expertise and patient values. This abstract presents how the University of Florida College of Dentistry (UFCD) incorporates EBD into their dental curriculum. Purpose of this presentation is to highlight the importance of preventing overdiagnosis in dentistry and to review the EBD in UFCD curriculum.A comprehensive review of current literature on overdiagnosis in dental care and EBD was conducted. The findings suggest that integrating EBD into dental curricula can significantly enhance the ability of future dentists to make informed clinical decisions. Promoting preventive care can effectively manage oral health and minimize the need for invasive treatments. Additionally, the use of advanced diagnostic tools improves diagnostic accuracy, ensuring that only necessary treatments are recommended. The strategies include curriculum development, teaching dental students to critically evaluate research and apply evidence-based guidelines, and the use of advanced diagnostic tools.
