Chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP) after cesarian section remains an important and under-recognized clinical problem. A recent meta-analysis reveals that its incidence is approximately 16.7%, 11.4%, and 8.8% at 3, 6, and 12 months and highlights the consequences on maternal functionality, well-being, and bonding.1 Despite recent advances in surgical and anesthetic techniques, the incidence of CPSP has remained stable since 2002.1 These findings suggest that population therapeutic strategies have had limited impact on reducing CPSP rates and emphasize the need for an individualized approach.
