This series of systematic reviews1–4 was commissioned by WHO in July 2022 to inform their guideline review process (www.who.int). The aim was to identify the current evidence for developing WHO guidelines for the management of acute childhood asthma. The reviews fed into the updated WHO guidelines and recommendations on asthma in children and adolescents. The Guideline Development Group (GDG) meeting was held in Geneva, Switzerland, in October 2023. The systematic review team has completed seven reviews. The majority of these have been through the external peer review editorial board scrutiny process, in Archives of Disease in Childhood and accepted for publication; the remainder are in process.
