27 PICTURE – Implementation of OMOP within a GOSH Clinical Informatics APP

Introduction PICTURE is an in-house clinical informatics platform allowing efficient analysis of EHR data and has been used in GOSH, e.g. exploratory data analysis to inform gastroenterology consent. However, currently it can only use GOSH data structures. The Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership common data model (OMOP) provides a common language for storing clinical data across institutions. This could allow PICTURE to work with data from any source that supports the OMOP. In this study we investigate the feasibility of integrating OMOP into our existing software.Methods An OMOP database of GOSH medical data was built by the DRIVE data science team. New modules were made in PICTURE to query the database and save outputs as parquet files – directly readable by PICTURE. To test the new integration, a cohort of patients with Empyema/Pyothorax was made using ICD-10 and SNOMED terms and analysed in PICTURE.Results We were able to integrate OMOP data directly into PICTURE and visualise the results. A patient list was created from the OMOP cohort and used to extract the information needed for PICTURE. OMOP data was post-processed to convert from numerical cohort IDs to character information, e.g. gender, and the ICD-10 hierarchy was added. The OMOP data was then saved as parquet files and loaded into PICTURE to make a cohort of 142 patients using 7 analytical methods across 12 PICTURE analysis views.Conclusion OMOP has now been added to PICTURE potentially increasing its utility across. In future we could develop PICTURE further to enable live querying of the database and open source the code to allow other Trusts to use it.Acknowledgements for Funding or Support This work is supported by the NIHR GOSH BRC.
