Continued difficulty: ongoing optimization of traumatic abdominal wall hernia management

The diagnosis and management of traumatic abdominal wall hernias (TAWH) continue to present challenges to trauma surgeons. While some larger studies have been performed, overall limited data are available to guide treatment of these injuries.1–3 Patient identification remains difficult given the lack of trauma-specific diagnosis codes to differentiate TAWH from non-traumatic hernias.
