Beginning with two extremely opposing views on the widely debated case of a Chinese patient seeking medically assisted suicide (MAS) in Switzerland, this paper advocates for a Confucian middle-way perspective on the issue. It argues that from this perspective, while it is ethically justifiable for mainland China not to legalise MAS, it is ethically acceptable for Switzerland to do so, and it is permissible for Chinese patients to travel to Switzerland for these services at their own expense. We provide Confucian reasoning to support these positions and address potential objections.
