The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly reshaped global health governance and positioned the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) at the forefront of the African Union’s (AU) collective response. Confronted with stark inequities, disrupted supply chains and vaccine nationalism, Africa CDC emerged not only as a technical agency but also as a decisive political actor. Through cross-continental coordination, pooled procurement platforms and high-level diplomatic engagement, it helped secure vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics at a time when many African countries faced exclusion from global markets. 1
