High Intensity Use (HIU) programmes offer targeted outpatient appointments to those attending emergency departments (EDs) at significantly higher rates than the general population. They are increasingly available across the UK for adult patients, focusing on how the individual’s broader socioeconomic context influences their healthcare use. 1 Such clinics are less commonly offered to children and young people, with limited data on their use. Paediatric EDs (PEDs) experience high volumes of low-acuity attendances, driven in part by an understandably low parental tolerance of risk and a perceived paucity of community services.2
