I became a GP trainer early in my career, so I’ve been involved in medical education for nearly 40 years. When I started I was attached to the British Postgraduate Medical Federation, but in the 1990s this morphed into the regional deaneries. These sometimes merged or demerged for more than a decade, but they generally worked well.1
