Achromobacter xylosoxidans is an aerobic, Gram-negative bacillus typically associated with opportunistic infections. Bacteraemia caused by this organism is rare. We report a case of A. xylosoxidans bacteraemia in a young patient who presented with fever and a systemic inflammatory response and was successfully treated with targeted antimicrobial therapy, consisting of ciprofloxacin (a fluoroquinolone) and amikacin (an aminoglycoside), guided by antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
