Weight regain after discontinuing pharmacological treatment for obesity is common, as shown in a recent systematic review and meta-analysis in The BMJ.1 Most people regain lost weight, with body weight returning to baseline within two years. This is consistent with the pathophysiology of obesity and its chronic nature,2 occurring within obesogenic environments.3 But how this phenomenon is described shows a deeper conceptual problem.
